Introduction

Hi everyone, I welcome y'all to S3W2 of the engagement challenge contest in the Hot News Community which began yesterday. I will be making my entry in this amazing community today. For this second week, the topic is all about "My Local Music". So I will be discussing on this topic with the guidelines of the following questions and without wasting any time, I will get started

What type of music is a characteristic of your country that is played or listened to a lot?

Music Is the art of producing a pleasant combination of a variety of tones with different musical instruments which gives out a unique rhythm and melody. Music is extremely very important because it usually improves out health and well being. For health, it is studied that music can reduce the rate of heart beat and high blood pressure and in terms of well being, music brings people together and reduces the level of loneliness, reduces emotional stress, it can reduce the level of anxiety and improve our mood

Now after knowing all what music is, let's now see what type of music is a characteristic in my country.

I come from Cameroon and Cameroon is made up of 10-regions. Out of this 10-regions, there are a variety of several local music played all over the 10-regions and this music played includes a diverse traditional and modern musical genres. The most common music played in Cameroon are Makossa and Bikutsi.

Makossa is one of the best known Cameroonian music which is being produced from electronic bass guitar, congolese rumba and a section of brass. It is translated from Douala language as "Dance" and it was originated from Douala dance called "Kossa". It is a modern type of funky dance music which was developed and have become very popular all over the nation and it's being sang and dance by the general population of the country because of its beautiful rythms and style of dance

This Makossa came to the fore front in the early 1960's by it's co founder "Emmanuel Nelle Eyoum" but began very popular at around 1972 buy a song writer known as "Manu Dibango" who is also a very good saxophonist. The hit that made Makossa song to be known globally is titled "Soul Makossa" and was produced in 1972 by Emmanu Debango

Other popular Makossa singers that produces Makossa music are Petit Pays, Jean Pierre Essome, Marcel Bwanga, Kotto Bass and Papillon whom have produce a variety of different brands of Makossa music like makassi, bend-skin andmangambeu

Another very good popular music in my Country Cameroon is the "Bikutsi music" which began being popular as early as the 20th century till present date. It is a primarily dance musical genre from Cameroon and was particularly developed by people who live in Yaounde known as the Ewondo people. The lyrics of this music is usually focused in lives of the most famous people in and out of the country, sexuality and more focused on relationships. The females usually sing the chorus along with a balafon and this chorus usually form an integral part of the Bikutsi music . During the musical play, the usual scream, shout while dancing and all this characterized the genres

Bikutsi was initially produced from instruments like mvet and the balafon back then in the 20th century and has long been improved and modernize to modern instruments like the keyboard (piano 🎹) and the electric guitar 🎸. However, if you still want to enjoy the real Bikutsi then I advised you to listen to ancient Bikutsi because it's melodies are unique, realistic and very passionate about sexuality and relationships

The most people who made Bikutsi most famous and popular across the country and world wide are Lady Ponce, Mani Bella, Coco Agentine, Sally Nyolo, Ko-C and others

Other music played in Cameroon are

  • Hip Hop

  • Afro Pop

  • Gospel Music

  • Mboko Music

The beauty of this music and the reason why this music can attract visitors to listen to it

The beauty of Cameroon music 🎵 has stood out to be outstanding because of the special effects and influence from people in Cameroon and out of Cameron hence making Cameroonian music to be listened in most part of the world. Most of this music from Cameroon has a story line and it is usually sang in the form of music. At first, it was a means of communicating on the battle field within the hundreds of ethnic groups in Cameroon and it has long gain popularity through a variety of popular Cameroonian musicians such as Petit Pays, Kotto Bass, Jean Pierre Essome, Marcel Bwanga, Papillon, and so many others

The most notably popular music such as Bikutsi and Makossa is enjoyed by everyone locally and internationally and the beauty is very special which is usually produce with special quality instruments hence giving out a rythmic cool sound that is so unique, enjoyable and danceable
