SEC S5W5 : My Corner | Academics News Report.
Hello to you everyone, how are you doing, I welcome you all to a new week of the Steemit Engagement Challenge, and here we are in the week 5 of the 5th season.
Today, I will be participating in the Hot News community to give a situation report of my corner, the situation report I will be giving is How the Academics Strike has affected majors of the University's and its businesses.
The Nigeria Universities has been on strike since February 16 2022, and this has been an head to head fight between the University bodies and the Government.
The action that led to the strike are ;
- Increased Salary payment for lectures
- Revisitation of Funds
- A new payroll system
This has been a saddened moment to most Nigerian students and parents as this has caused a terrible effects in the youths development, both youths and parents are stranded by the government, and there is no other way out except for those who might want to pursue the Private Organisation University's which is 50x amount of the tution fee of what the student are getting from the federal Schools.
This has been a on and off bargaining with the Ministry of labour, several meetings with no positive outcome, yet leaving Nigeria education in a cripple environment for long, the schools are scanty, business owners can no longer proceed, and the government initiate a No work, no pay policy to the lecturers as well, which means since the past 8 months, lectures have been cut off there payment.
Now, let's take a look of how bad things have gotten to in the school environment.
This is the Senate Building, one of the busiest street in the campus, now when you speak, you can literally hear yourself echo in return, this is no way the education is supposed to be.
This is the student's hostel, all students have vacated the environment for the past 8 months now, there are news that there are now reptiles in the student's hostel sorrundings.
These are the major roads to classrooms, there was never a time you could pass this street conveniently without being delayed , now it's giving a different vibe from what it's used to be.
This is the faculty of science lecture hall, one of the most occupying environment, always busy with students trying to read , and the texture the students gives to the environment is beyond all doubt, the environment is now full of dust and no one coming in or out, it's sad to witness this situation in the education system.
There was no way one could have predict such will happen, a school with over 80,000 students with more than 120 department, is now as quiet as it is now, no more businesses, shops have been shut down, and gets me wondering how those business owners could survive this period.
Although, there has been some recent development where some universities have suspended their strike as government have found a way to adjust to the university bodies demands, but in the case of my school, the strike is still very much active and academics resumption has been suspended till next year.
The Name of My school is Ahmad Bello University, located in Northern Nigeria, Kaduna what3world location
Here comes the conclusion of the situation report in my school and Nigeria Universities at large, it's a fatal situation that has been causing a great effect to the country's youth, as students are now studying 4 years course in 6 years, My graduation is due in 2022, but due to the regular strike and Covid, I still have additional 3 years to my studies, it's an unhealthy practice of academics which we all hope the government comes to its aide before things gets out of adjustment.
I hereby invite @solexybaba, @msqauretk and @sahmie to join the contest as well.

The effect of the ASUU strike on Nigerian universities is quite disheartening and I can testify to what the school environment looks like during a period of a long strike, it feels like an abandoned land.
I thought the industrial action has been relieved across the country, only to realize that it's still active in some institutions through your article. And I hope it all ends sooner. Great piece and I wish you all the best, brother @badmus-official.
I heard about this strike in Nigeria from another friend. I got more details after reading your post. I think students are the most affected by this religion. Journalist @badmus-official You have described the situation in your country very skillfully.
