Local News : The worst flooding in 3 sub-districts in North Aceh

The flood that occurred in North Aceh entered its 4th day on Saturday (08/10/2021), before the flood began to occur on Tuesday (04/10/2022). On the first day, flooding only occurred in 2 sub-districts in North Aceh, namely Matangkuli and Pirak Timu sub-districts. Meanwhile, to this day, flooding has spread to 14 sub-districts in North Aceh, including Pirak Timu, Matangkuli, Cot Girek, Lhoksukon, Tanah Luas, Samudera, Nisam, Paya Bakong, Muara Batu, Geureudong Pase, Langkahan, Dewantara, Sawang and Banda Baro Districts.

For residents affected by flooding, as of now, there are 49,791 people in 14,774 families. Meanwhile, the total number of displaced victims recorded was 41,120 people in 12,598 families. On average, they fled to the meunasah or study hall. The reason they chose this place is because the place is higher than the water level and there are 28 evacuation points for evacuation points.

So far there have been no fatalities in the flood disaster that occurred, only 1 person died because he was on his way to be taken to the hospital but was trapped due to flooding and died on the way.

For the time being, the sub-districts worst hit by flooding are Lhoksukon, Pirak Timu and Matangkuli. The average water level in the sub-district ranges from 1 to 1.5 meters. For the capital of North Aceh, Lhokseumawe, on Friday (07/10/2022) the water had receded and residents had started cleaning their houses. But on Saturday morning the water again submerged Lhoksukon.

The flood that occurred this year was due to a broken river embankment and the overflow of water from the river. On Wednesday (05/10/2022) the first levee that broke was in Buloh Village, Lhoksukon Sub-district, and on the same day the second levee broke again in Madan Village, Samudera Sub-district, while the third levee that broke on Friday (07/10/2022) in Mancang Village, Lhoksukon District.

The data I got from BMKG for the next 1 week in North Aceh Regency there will still be light rain and rain accompanied by lightning. So people must remain vigilant against the aftershocks of flooding.

Not only residents' houses were flooded, public offices, including sub-district offices and schools, were also flooded. For public service activities and schools, they are temporarily closed until normal conditions return.

For now, most of the refugees are in Lhoksukon District, considering that this sub-district has the most villages for North Aceh, which is 75 villages. With the number of refugees in 49 villages in Lhoksukon.
