Visiting the hospital and seeking for a Pediatrician attention

I was sick of worries when my kids were having this feverish feelings. I have been battling the symptoms on my own for weeks now. Then came the cough which took the sleep away, but when temperature rose, a visit to the Pediatrician was inevitable.

Who is a pediatrician

A pediatrician is a doctor whose area of speciality is the management of children's health. they are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of illness that affects children. The age range of children treated by a pediatrician span from birth to age 18. So this means their patients are babies, infants, toddlers and adolescents, and their job is a little more complex when compared with that of the regular doctor.

A pediatrician's world

When you visit a doctor, you tell them how you feel, describing your symptoms which gives the doctor a clue of what might be wrong, he then orders a specific test that would confirm his suspicion based on your complain.
On the other hand, most of the pediatrician's patients are babies and toddlers who have not developed the ability to speak. Which means they can't communicate and tell what the problem is, yet the pediatrician has to solve the puzzle by going through a series of checks. A pediatrician in this case works with a third party which is the parents or the caregiver.

While I was reporting the signs and symptoms I observed, the pediatrician was busy examining eyes, ears, nose, mouth, teeth, throat, neck and so on.
A test was ordered in both cases and one came back positive for malaria while the other had a throat infection and upper respiratory tract infection. The pediatrician's prescription was a declaration of war.

War in the hospital

There was no real war, it was just a real struggling between the nurse and her syringe on one side and the kids on the other side.
I really can't say which side of the struggle I belong though I was asked to help hold the kids when they fought against the needle. This struggle will be repeated in three consecutive days.

At the time of this writing, the kids are still battling with high temperature, catarrh and a little bit of cough. My elder child has missed her first term examinations because of ill health.

When to visit a pediatrician

• You may have to visit a pediatrician for periodic health checks, the number of times visit the pediatrician for such health checks vary depending on the child's age.
• If the child has a fever with temperature rising as high as 140 degrees fahrenheit or 40 degree celsius arrivals which was one of the reasons why I visited the pediatrician in this case
• If a fever is accompanied by seizures, or constant crying and trouble breathing.

How to Qualify as pediatrician

After medical school, a pediatrician has to go through a three-year residency program at the end of which some may decide to choose a particular field for specialisation.
Some pediatrician specialise in the treatment of respiratory diseases in children, all that specialise in problems that affect digestion, skin diseases, heart or lungs and cancer in children.

Conclusion

I have really been through a lot these days, even after visiting the hospital, thier health is not still back to normal. I am thinking of visiting another pediatrician.

I sometimes blame myself for not visiting the hospital earlier enough.

It is best to know when it's time to consult the pediatrician and when a home remedy will not be the best solution to the problem. Make your kids health a priority.
