Sofiyivka Arboretum
It seems that 2022 will not be much different from 2021. Therefore, when planning trips for this year, the main direction will be within the country.
One of the most popular places in Ukraine for domestic tourists is the arboretum "Sofiyivka". Bus tours from all over Ukraine are organized here. This is a very picturesque place and a paradise for couples in love.
This National Dendrological Park is located in Uman, which is geographically located in the center of Ukraine. Sofiyivka is considered to be one of the most outstanding monuments of landscape art. It was created in the late 18th century - early 19th century. The area of the park is about 180 hectares.
The creation of the park began back in 1796. The idea belongs to the Polish magnate Stanislaw Potocki. He had a charming wife, a native of Greece. It is not difficult to guess that her name was Sophia. it was in her honor that the park was named. The monument was created until 1802, when Potocki presented it to his wife on the day of his wife's angel.
The gift was not a surprise. Sofia herself joined the creation of the dendrological park. It is because of her ideas and preferences that the park was decorated in a romantic style using Roman and Greek mythology, ancient sculptures, fountains and ponds.
Surprisingly, some outstanding artists were not invited to create the masterpiece. The work was performed by local craftsmen who lived in Uman and around it. Ponds were dug here, an underground river was laid, and very large granite boulders were moved, from which sculptors made ornaments. Then they started planting trees. Initially, plants of local origin were used, but very quickly they switched to importing exotic ones. But marble sculptures were bought from Italian and French masters.
One tree became a real celebrity in the park. This is an oak that is more than 400 years old. There are folk tales that show that such prominent figures as Maksym Zalizniak and Ivan Honta gathered Cossacks under this oak. Nobody knows for sure whether this is true or not. I think it's a good legend, but I want to see a 400-year-old oak.
The composition of the park is built around the river Kamyanka. Several artificial pools and ponds were built here. For example, the Upper Pond has 8 hectares! Waterfalls, 14 meters high, were also built here. There are locks and cascades, the famous underground river Acheron, fountains and more. By the way, the length of the underground river is 224 m, and this is the work of human hands! The park is also decorated with artificial rocks and grottoes.
By combining different plants, separate different areas were created: the Main Alley, the Champs Elysees, the Greek Forest, the Oak Club, the English Park, the Scotland Area and others.

"Sofiyivka" does not stop developing. Recently, another Dino Sofia location was added here. Here you can see life-size dinosaurs, primitive people and other historical monuments. And if you have children with you, they can arrange real archeological excavations in a large sandbox. Since I plan to go to Sofiyivka with a child, the availability of such new locations, and even with additional children's entertainment, is important to me.
That is why after visiting the dinosaurs I will take my child to the location of Nova Sofiyivka. It is the only fantasy park in all of Eastern Europe. Here, natural objects are harmoniously combined with human creation. Thus was born the Japanese garden, where you can feel like a real samurai. There is a children’s playground, a waterfall with a real stone dragon and a traditional Ukrainian manor house.
Visiting such an extraordinary park is a very cheap pleasure. I am more worried about the cost of the road to the park than visiting it. The cost of a ticket for one adult is only 50 hryvnias (less than 2 dollars).
