A Market day in my local market
Hello friends! Hope you all had an amazing week? Glad to make this post here @steemtravelers community. So it happened that today is a market day in my local market, market days in my local market in Ilishan Market, Ogun State usually happens at 4 days interval and on a market day, the market is usually very noisy and rowdy. But it's very certain to get anything you want to buy at a very cheap price.
Before I headed to the market, I checked around my house for the food items and groceries that I would need and after making my list, I quickly boarded a bike that took me to the ATM machine so I could make a withdrawal. Getting to ATM stand, there were lots of people waiting to withdraw too.
But I just wondered why the ATM stand was full today, then I thought, it's a weekend and everyone needs money for the weekend!
I spent almost an hour at the ATM and when it finally got to my turn, I made a withdrawal.
I finally headed to the market and on sighting the abokina who was already set to make sales, I bought some onions from him. What actually attracted me to this particular abokina onion seller is his orderliness with his onion arrangement.
I went ahead to buy some food items for soup.
I bought some dry fish, uha leaf and Egusi. I actually wanted to buy some Ukazi leaf for soup but had a change of mind when I sighted some fresh uha. I also complimented it with some uziza. My Nigerian soup lovers can testify how amazing this vegetable combination can be😋
I needed a change of slippers that I could wear indoors. It was not actually in my list but I just had to squeeze out some cash to buy. Buying the type of slippers I wanted for myself on a non market day is very expensive and very cheap in a market day. Infact the last time I checked for the price of the slippers on a non market day, I was told the price is N1500
But I got it today for N800 cus it's a market day. Hahaha!
The next thing on my list that I bought was groundnut oil and red oil. The rate at which anything oil is getting expensive these days in Nigeria ehh! It's becoming very alarming that I wish I could make my meals without anything oil.
Getting to the shop I asked the seller how much a medium size mamador groundnut oil is sold and he said N2700. Really? This was what I used to buy for N1800 last year and it further increased to N2500 this year. Very soon I'll stop using anything oil in my meals, I thought.
Like it's even possible😅 God help us oo! And for the red oil, I don't even want to about how red Oil has become a hot cake in Nigeria. Damn expensive now😔
I bought a paint of beans too from the abokina that I normally buy from on market days. You might be wondering why I took a picture of the bucket of paint and a bowl. So this abokina told me that a bowl of beans is N800 and because I wanted 3 bowls, which would cost N2400 I told him to do a discount of N100 for me. He refused saying he can only give a discount if he uses a bucket of paint to measure the beans for me😆 I asked him the difference, he said if he gives me 3 bowls that the quantity of beans will be bigger than that of a bucket of paint. To cut the long story short, we actually checked it out and I didn't see any difference so I went ahead to allow him measure with a bucket of paint for N2300
And finally I headed over to a cosmetics shop where I bought a rollon. Truly, the Nivea rollon has never disappointed me via increase in price. Since last year that I started using this particular rollon it has been sold for N700.
After I was done with that, I checked my list and discovered that all on my list has been bought. I got into a motorcycle and headed home. Friends, that was how my local market day shopping experience was. I hope you share your own experience of how you shop during local market days in your region or country. I'll be glad to read🤗
See you next time, Bye!
Thanks for the assessment 🤗
