Greetings Steemians! I want to thank the organizer of this contest #steem-traveler today I will be sharing my local dish which is Banga soup and starch.

Banga soup(Palm nut Fruit) and starch

Banga is also called palm nut fruit, Banga is the local name.. Banga soup is my local soup from Delta state warri in the south west part the itsekiri tribe Nigeria Banga soup and starch is my favorite food I love cooking and eating as well it's very nutritious and unique, Banga soup is very sweet and it contain alot of nutritious value, like it enhances our bone to be very strong and safe us from heart related diseases.
We have different type of Banga soup, Banga soup prepared with chicken, the one prepared with dried meat, the one prepared with fresh catfish etc.. But my favorite is the one prepared with fresh catfish.
Ingredients involved in cooking this my local dish is palm nut fruit, Beletete leaf (it's a dried leaf ) dried bitter leaf,sea food like crayfish,shrimp, periwinkle etc pepper,Maggi, salt, Banga spice locally called Ataiko and irugeje, assorted meat, chicken and fresh catfish.

How to prepare Banga soup


The process of making Banga soup is very easy without stress.
Firstly you need to buy your palm nut large/small quantity depending on how you want it.

  • You will first boiled the palm nut fruit for 15minute or more than till when it's soft and after that you will bring your mortal and pestle for pounding, you will turn the boiled palm nut fruit into a bowl and pound it to extract the oil from the nut applying warm or cold water to it.

* After this you will filter the extracted oil to my pot and grind your onions add it to give it aroma, then wash your fresh catfish with hot water to remove the slime in the body of the fish,add it when you've put your Banga spice, Maggi, salt, pepper, shrimps, periwinkle or crayfish and your dried Bitter leaf and beletete so the catfish won't scatter, you can as well add the stock from your assortment meat too and allow it to fully cooked till its thick.

How to prepare Starch

Starch is a product extracted from cassava.

  • Firstly you will bring a pot that is deep, though we have specific pot for it, and rub palm oil on the pot, put your starch into the pot then add water to it till its liquid or watery.

  • Place it on the heat and stir until it's thick using spoon made with wood, the stirring must be continuous till it thick and fully cooked.
    Then you can serve alot side your Banga soup yummy 😁

Banga soup is very sweet,ask any delta person from warri they will tell you that if you eat that soup kaii you won't eat any other soup again.. very delicious 😁 please you need to try it out thanks.
