IF YOU DON'T STUDY HARD..??
I remember the first day in the university (university of Nigeria), I had traveled all the way from my state to this new place, I was so excited and couldn't wait to explore this new territory. I quickly beckoned on my friend Jack to show around, he was an old student, he was experienced and knew a lot about the school.
The school was well-known for their artworks, I had heard a lot about the department of arts and had also read about their exploits in sculpture and art in general. one of my high school teacher also attended this University and she always told us about the amazing artworks found in the school, I had always wished to come see things for myself so the faculty of art was the first place I told my friend to take me to.
My friend showed me around the faculty and told me about the different sculptures and what's the symbolised, when we got to this sculpture he explained that it was symbolic and was an important sculpture in the school. he then looked at me and said "don't be carried away by all the fun activities in school here, if you don't bend down and study hard, unn( university of Nigeria) will bend you".
I really don't understand why he was saying those things and what he meant by unn will bend you but didn't bother to ask him because I was so obsessed with seeing more artworks and having fun
After my first year exams, I saw my results I felt really bad for myself , I had failed three courses and had to rewrite the exams, although I know I didn't study so hard for those exams , I really didn't believe that I would do so bad.
preparing to re-write the exams wasn't easy at all, things we are now very tough and stressful, I had to read more books and write extra exams because of my carry-overs and fear had gripped me.
this time I worked very hard, even harder than my colleagues in class because I had three extra exams to write, I stopped partying and every other frivolous activities I had engaged in in the the past , I didn't have time for them anymore, all I had time for was my books.
the school load had become very much and I could barely copy with them. At some point I became almost tired and almost frustrated,
the stress , the lack of good sleep and the fear of failing again and the risk of being kicked out of the school, they all weighed me down
one evening , I was going back home from one of my extra-classes in school, I was stressed, frustrated and hungry. I decided to pass through a shortcut to my house. The shortcut was through the faculty of arts and then through some lonely and dangerous Bush parts, I really don't care for the risk , all what I just wanted was to get home as fast as possible and rest. As I passed through the art and sculpture department, I saw this sculpture and immediately remember the words of my friend "if you don't bend down and read hard, UNN( university of Nigeria) will bend you.
I now understood what he was saying and indeed UNN had bent me, they had made me bend down and study and punished me for not working hard. I then wished I paid more attention to what he said earlier, now I just have to suffer the consequence of my actions and negligence.
I am inviting my friends @zekea , @amaka06, @sokabomb and @vokey to share their stories too
Special thanks to you all.
