Great story. Sometimes a group of humans can improve the collective intelligence by getting together, most of the time it is the contrary. This time it seems panic overrun common sense and the way you explained it made me laugh. It is not something funny, but the way you narrate it, makes it funny for me. I hope you and your friends will, at least, laugh about it for the rest of your lives.
We really laugh at every meeting, remembering that event. Unfortunately, a friend who was scared of a bear no longer goes hiking. His fear is so great that he is now terrified of wildlife. Interestingly, he understands all the fun of his fear, he willingly remembers how he ran away and sincerely laughs at the situation, but his fear of wild animals remains.
:-) It's nice he can laugh about it, but it's a shame your friend can't overcome the fear of possible threats.
