Zainul abedin

Zainul Abedin was the best painter of Bangladesh. He is called the father of painting in Bangladesh. Zainul Abedin (29 December 1914 - 26 May 1986) was a Bengali painter of the twentieth century. .He received the title of Shilpacharya for his lifelong efforts to spread the teaching of painting in East Bengal and Bangladesh.

Birth and education

Zainul Abedin was born on 29 December 1914 in Kendua, Kishoreganj sub-district (now Kishoreganj district) of the then Mymensingh district. Father Tamizuddin Ahmed was a police sub-inspector, mother Joynabunnesa a housewife. .Zainul Abedin was the eldest of nine siblings. The handcuffs in the study are in the internal environment of the family.

He loved to draw from a very young age. .He used to draw bird nests, birds, fish, cows and goats, flowers and fruits and show them to his parents. He had a deep interest in art since childhood. Running away from home at the age of sixteen, he went to Calcutta with friends just to visit the Government School of Arts. .After visiting the Calcutta Government School of Arts, Zainul Abedin was not interested in general studiesSo in 1933 he dropped out of school before the secondary (matriculation) examination and moved to Calcutta and with the approval of his mother he was admitted to the Government School of Arts. .Seeing the interest of his mother Zainul Abedin, he sold his necklace and helped his son to get admission in the then art school in Calcutta. Zainul Abedin studied at the Government Art School in Calcutta from 1933 to 1936. .He graduated from the Government School of Arts, Calcutta in 1938 with a bachelor's degree in first class.

Work life

In 1947, British India was divided into two countries, India and Pakistan. East Bengal got a new name East Pakistan which later became an independent state in 1971 as Bangladesh. Zainul Abedin is the foremost personality of the first generation artists of East Bengal. After the partition of India in 1947, there was a need for a painting institute in East Pakistan. .At the initiative of Zainul Abedin, the Government Art Institute was established in 1948 in a dilapidated room of the National Medical School, Johnson Road, Old Dhaka. Initially, the number of students was only 16. Zainul Abedin was the first teacher of this institution. .In 1951, the art institute moved to a house in Segunbagichar. The Art Institute was shifted to Shahbag in 1956. .It was recognized as a first class government college in 1963 and was renamed as East Pakistan College of Arts and Crafts. .After the rise of Bangladesh in 1971, the name of the same institution was changed to 'Bangladesh College of Arts and Crafts'. He was the founding principal of the College of Arts and Crafts from 1946 to 1966.

With the interest and planning of Zainul Abedin, the government established the Folk Art Museum at Sonargaon in Narayanganj and the Zainul Museum at Mymensingh in 1985.

Reward editing

He was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the Government of Pakistan in 1956 for his outstanding contribution to painting. He was awarded the Independence Award by the Government of Bangladesh.

Death edit

Zainul Abedin died on 27 May 1986. .He was buried next to the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the Institute of Fine Arts.
