#club5050// Photo Contest: History// The Old Capital of Siam

in Steem-Travelers3 years ago

Greetings to all readers and authors! Once we traveled along Thailand. Among other wonderful places we visited the ancient Thai capital of Ayutthaya.

Many centuries ago this place was the center of Indochina and trade routes were connected here.

This place is unique. Ayutthaya became the capital of the Siamese Kingdom back in the 14th century and it was ruled by 33 kings over the years.

The largest temple located here is the royal temple Wat Phra Si Sanphet. After the Burmese had invaded Ayutthaya, the temple was destroyed and abandoned until UNESCO took control of the temple in 1991.The buildings you see in the photo are called chedi.

Such architecture was adopted from Ceylon, and the chedis are very similar to bells. In each of the chedis the remains of Siamese kings are buried. The Burmese invaders looted these chedis, but not completely, and some of the Buddha statues that previously had been kept inside the chedi can now be seen in the national museum.

I hope you will agree that these buildings are very exotic. And the spirit of antiquity emanates from them. In general, there are about 300 temples in Ayutthaya. Some of them are well preserved, others are only ruins. But even the ruins here are beautiful.

If you want to see the real exotics, then this place should definitely be visited.
