Amazon prepares to launch a digital currency project in Mexico

E-commerce giant Amazon is preparing to launch a "digital currency" project in Mexico, and currency seems to be Amazon's next target.

Amazon is hiring software development engineers for the Digital and Emerging Payments (DEP) department to develop a new payment product that will enable customers to convert cash into digital currency so that customers can enjoy online services, including purchasing goods or Prime Video And other services.

Amazon's Digital and Emerging Payments division intends to launch this product in Mexico first, and the product seems to be mainly aimed at emerging markets.

It is not clear how much Amazon’s plan to enter digital currency has in common with “Amazon Coin”, an 8-year-old virtual currency program that allows owners to use Amazon-issued cash for transactions in online games.
