RE: Favorite Events From History

Oh boy am I gonna be posting about all these some day XD
already spoke of this in my Sparta + lycurgus post, but
THE SPARTAN AND THE FOX - In Sparta, boys were punished if they were caught stealing food. A boy, once out to catch some food, caught a live baby fox, and concealed it in his cloak to avoid it being seen by the elder Spartans. Rather than unveil the fox from under his cloak and be punished for being caught stealing, he allowed the cub to eat away at his stomach until he made it back to his barracks... THAT'S determination!

Sort:

That is amazing. But what is the point? Yeah. Determination. But why did the boy have the fox? To eat? But can't eat without a stomach. Can't live without a stomach, right? So, was it a suicide mission?

The boys were use to severe punishments, like regular lashings, happening all the time, sometimes as punishment and sometimes just to toughen them up, which is what makes this story somewhat believable; it's not a provably true story.
And my bad: by stomach, I meant just the flesh outside of his stomach - so his belly.
And yes, he was bringing it back to eat.
