West Wycombe Park House
Trying to finally go through and organise all my summer photos as I went so many places and didn’t get chance to even upload everything. Here are some shots from one of my favourite national trust gardens, West Wycombe Park. We only got to see the outside as we also did the hellfire caves and West Wycombe old village so the inside was closed when we got there. It’s one I would really like to go back to.
The house has of the finest surviving examples of 18th-century landscape gardens. The estate was in the Dashwood family for over 300 years. Francis Dashwood was the founder of the Hellfire Club and the hellfire caves which, are just down the road. This club was known for its wild and extravagant parties and although to this day no one knows exactly what went on there it is thought that sex and ritual was a big part of it.
The garden was full of classically inspired ornamental temples and water features, inspired by his love of the arts and the theatrical. I definitely missed a lot at this property and want to go back and explore it properly. I think it would look especially beautiful in autumn.
Afterwards I treated myself to one of my favourite little snacks from cotes, crudités with romasco sauce and a coffee :)
