Leighton House
Leighton house is the home of renowned artist Frederic Leighton. The architecture and decoration were all an expression of his artistic spirit. The building was acquired in 1864 and began as a small scale project but he continued to work on the house with his friend and architect George Aitchinson to build a number of extensions until his death in 1866. The main feature was definitely the Arab hall which was made in the 1870s and was inspired by his travels to North Africa and the Middle East. The 12 th c palace of la Zisa in Sicily was also a major influence. This one room cost more than to build than the original house. At the time it was one of its kind in London and the prestige of Leighton house grew considerably.
Several music videos have been shot here including Spanday Ballet Gold and golden brown by the Stranglers.
