Xinjiang Road Trip | Soaking in a Hot Spring Amid Snowy Landscapes This is one of China's eight major natural ancient hot springs, a sulfuric hydrogen fluoride silicon spring originating from deep underground.

Visiting here in winter to soak in the hot spring feels absolutely amazing. On my Xinjiang road trip, the first stop was from Urumqi to Shawan, the birthplace of the famous "Big Plate Chicken." After enjoying this delicious dish, we drove to the Tianchi Holy Spring Resort Hotel. The resort is located at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains, about 60 kilometers from Shawan city.

Driving towards the hotel, you’re treated to stunning views of the Tianshan Mountains all along the way. Tianchi Holy Spring Resort offers excellent facilities and convenient parking. Our hotel booking included two hot spring tickets, and with a nightly rate of just over 500 RMB, it felt like the hotel stay was practically free when considering the value of the tickets.

The spacious room had a window view of the serene snowy mountains, which, as someone from the south, I found so mesmerizing that I didn’t even want to close the curtains. You don’t have to step outdoors to get to the hot spring area; it’s just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel rooms. The hot spring area is divided into indoor and outdoor sections.

The temperature difference between the snowy ground and the hot spring is significant, especially when moving from one pool to another. Be sure to bring your room’s bathrobe with you. Soaking in the outdoor hot spring at night was an unparalleled experience! Surrounded by swirling mist, it felt ethereal.

Looking up, you see the Tianshan Mountains and a sky full of stars. It’s something you have to experience yourself to truly appreciate. After the hot spring, your skin feels silky smooth. You can get a back scrub, dine at the second-floor Chinese restaurant, or even enjoy a session in the sauna. This place is also ideal for family vacations.
