Earlier I talked to you about Vesak. So today I am going to share with you about Poson Poya Day. I said before that every month has a full moon day. This month's poya is Poson Poya. Tomorrow is Poson Poya Day. The government has named Pozon Week from yesterday.

Among these festivals, the main festivals of the Buddhist people are Vesak, Pozon and Esala festivals. Vesak festival was celebrated with grandeur last month. Esala Poya is scheduled to be celebrated next month.

The main reason why Pozon Poya is important to us Buddhists is that our country received Buddhahood on the great Poson Poya day. During the time of King Devanam Piyatissa, who ruled Sri Lanka at that time, people including Mihindu Maha Rahat came to Sri Lanka from India. It was with the approval of King Dharmashoka who reigned in India. King Dharmasoka was the father of Mihindu Maha Rahat. King Dharmasoka spread Buddhism to 9 countries. As a result, Mihindu Maha Rahat has visited this country.

Before he came to our country, the people of Ceylon knew nothing about Buddhism.. At that time people considered trees, stones, rain and sun as deities. The people including Mihindu Maha Rahat came to this country in a time when there were many blind beliefs. He visits the area called Mihintalea. After testing King Devanam Piyatissa's intellect, Mihindu Maha Rahat taught him Dhamma. After hearing that sermon, the king embrace the buddhism and took refuge in Tisaran.

Later, the people of the country followed the king and took refuge in Buddhism. King Devanam Piyatissa deposited the relics of Lord Buddha and built the first stupa in Sri Lanka, Thuparamaya. Since then, the people of the country abandoned their superstitions and worshiped the relics of Lord Buddha.
