Tanjung Merah is one of the oldest villages in North Sulawesi. This area was once a trading port and was inhabited by the Loloda Tribe. Allegedly, the name Tanjung Merah (Red Cape) originated from a conflict between the Loloda Tribe and the Portuguese colonizers, who sought to monopolize trade in the region. The high number of casualties and bloodshed led to the area being known as Tanjung Merah, with its beach referred to as the "Pantai Mayat" or the Beach of Corpses.
Today, the Tanjung Merah area has become a tourist destination and a site for fish and shrimp farming, with several fish processing factories present. (R.O)
