COLOR OF THE WEEK CONTEST | BLUE WEEK | The Blue Doors
The doors of Tunisia are something without which the city wouldn't be the same. They add exceptional beauty and a lot of coziness. Overall, the architecture in the country is very simple and I would say quite ordinary. But when I noticed the doors and the details around them, i definitely changed my attitude towards Tunisians. With a little paint and the right details, these doors create an atmosphere and uplift the mood.
The doors are built from wood and metal. Many of them are quite old, but they are super tough and all they need to stay nice is a new coat of paint now and then.
Some of the doors have arches and i noticed that nearly all of them are in black and white, which whether intentional or not, reminds me of Egyptian pharaohs. This, in turn leads me to think that they might be conveying a sense of power through this choice of colors.
Many of the doors feature geometric shapes, flowers and patterns because according to Islam, depicting humans is seen as a form of idolatry and is thus forbidden by the Quran. Nonetheless, Tunisians have found a way to decorate their doors beautifully and I must say they do an excellent job.
The symbol known as the Hamsa depicts a human hand with the thumb and little finger extended outward. In the center of the palm there is a human eye. This symbol serves as a protective talisman against envy and the evil eye. In Morocco i've seen a similar symbol known as the Hand of Fatima, which is also used for protection.
In the capital, you will discover doors in various styles, sizes, colors, from well-preserved to weathered, and in various colors, especially in the old town! If you want to experience a touch of Greek ambiance, Sidi Bou Said is the town that will whisk you away to Greece, but with a Tunisian twist.
The town is small and tidy and i would say the cleanest of all the cities i visited. In Hammamet, you will find many doors in white and yellow and of course, some in blue. All in all, I'd say Tunisia's doors can easily match the charm of those in Malta and Italy. Enjoy 💙

These are absolutely exquisite!!!!! My mom would have painted them ALL! She loved to pain doors! Me, I would nab one to have it as some random feature in my home. They are just GORGEOUS!!!
