Hace y un tiempo logré capturar estas tomas de una oruga dándose vueltas. Cualquiera podría decir que se trata de un ser alienígena. El hecho de usar macrofotografía permitió acercarnos a detalles insospechables de este insecto en fase larvaria. Sus formas unidas a los colores le otorgan una belleza que hipnotiza y provoca acercarse y tocarla.
Some time ago I managed to capture these shots of a caterpillar circling. Anyone could say that it is an alien being. The fact of using macrophotography allowed us to get closer to unsuspected details of this insect in its larval phase. Its shapes together with the colors give it a beauty that hypnotizes and provokes you to approach and touch it.

Lo que sería un gran error pues dichos colores son más bien señales de lo peligrosamente urticantes que resultan sus vellos y pelusa. Lo que es una de sus adaptaciones de supervivencia en muchas especies de mariposas y polillas cuando están en fase de oruga.
Which would be a big mistake because these colors are rather signs of how dangerously stinging their hair and fluff are. What is one of its survival adaptations in many species of butterflies and moths when they are in the caterpillar phase.

El ejemplar como tal, pertenece a una especie de polilla, llamada Acharia rufescens. El nombre común es Polilla Silla de Montar o Polilla Ensillada, por la forma que tiene su parte frontal como escalones adornados por vellos urticantes.
The specimen as such belongs to a species of moth called Acharia rufescens. The common name is the Saddleback Moth or Saddleback Moth, due to the shape of its frontal part as steps adorned with stinging hairs.
