Better Project of the Government

Our country's social welfare department has a project called "Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program" or simply called 4Ps, which aims to provide cash grants to the poorest of the poor families in the country, at least to improve their lives especially their children ages below 18, their health and nutrition.

The said project has been very controversial because it was considered to be training the people to become lazy, and rely on the assistance coming from the government. What's more controversial is that families who are not indigent are listed to receive money monthly. Yes, as long as the family has ties or relationship with the Barangay officials or someone commissioned to create the list, regardless of your social status, you will receive the money monthly. In fact, those with huge houses and considerably earning well will receive the money, but those who are poorer are not on the list, simply because you don't have a connection.

Anyway, while my wife and I are walking yesterday to visit our deaf students, we passed by this food cart selling street foods. I had craved on the foods so I asked my wife to buy some, and we did. The cart is a part of the 4Ps project, and was granted even before Covid. I was happy to see the family working together on the livelihood program provided to them by the government. At least they're trained to work, and not become lazy.

It's a better project by the government because it serves as a training for the families. It's like giving them the nets or fishing rod to use for fishing instead of throwing fish on them.
