Today I want to show you some parasites called red mites and they are attached to this grasshopper. These mites commonly feed on plants but when they get the opportunity to embark on an insect or animal, they form their small community on it and travel with it.

Hoy quiero mostrarles unos paracitos llamados ácaros rojos y están adheridos a este saltamontes. Estos ácaros comúnmente se alimentan de plantas pero cuando consiguen la oportunidad de embarcarse en un insecto o animal, forman su pequeña comunidad sobre este y viajan junto a él.

There are others called aphids, they are very similar to these mites and they are not always so harmful, sometimes they create a symbiosis with ants, in this way the parasites receive protection against their predators and the ants obtain their sustenance.

Existen otros llamados pulgones son muy parecidos a estos ácaros y no siempre resultan tan dañinos, en ocasiones crean una simbiosis con hormigas, de esta forma los paracitos reciben protección contra sus depredadores y las hormigas obtienen su sustento.

Unfortunately, this is not the case with this grasshopper, for which its days are numbered since the mites will consume its last flash of energy and then leave.

Lamentablemente no es el caso de este saltamontes por lo cual sus días están contados ya que los ácaros le consumirán hasta su ultimo destello de energía y luego se marcharan.

I have observed parasites of this type in other grasshoppers but in this one they are a little larger, so much so that they are noticeable with the naked eye.

He observado en otros saltamontes parásitos de este tipo pero en este son un poco más grandes, tanto que se notan a simple vista.

When we were little, we always tried to catch grasshoppers. Sometimes large green locusts appeared, and they were easier to catch.
Very good photos. I love macro photos.
