RE: Superstitions That Still Many People Believe

in CCSlast year

Interesting post. Sometimes we also get into these superstitions when we travel with elderly people. In India its quite prevalent when any cat crosses your path. Its said that its a bad omen and one shouldnot continue on that path and should wait for some one else to go and then oly they should proceed.

Here, I also want to add about one much prevailed superstition. This is so much into the society that sometimes its also not treated as a superstition. Everyone must have heard about it in one way or the other. But in modern society people believe in it soooo much.
Here, I am talking about EVIL EYE.

It is prevalent in many cultures around the world. In India, it is believed that the evil eye can cause harm, sickness, or even death. To protect against the evil eye, people often wear amulets, bracelets, or necklaces with the image of an eye or a blue bead. Around the world, I think everyone must have atleast once came across that or they may have but passed unknowingly.

The evil eye, known as 'NAZAR' in India, is a common superstition that has been prevalent in Indian culture for centuries. It is believed that someone who possesses an envious or jealous nature can cast a malevolent gaze upon another person, causing them harm, misfortune or bad luck. This belief is deeply rooted in Indian society and is still widely believed in by many people, not only in rural but in urban and metro cities as well.
This can lead to various forms of misfortune, such as illness, financial problems, or relationship issues.

To ward off the evil eye, there are various traditional remedies that are commonly practiced in India. For example, many people wear amulets or charms that are believed to protect them from the evil eye. These amulets can take many forms, such as black beads, silver or gold jewelry, or even red or black strings tied around the wrist or neck.

While it may seem harmless to some, it can have serious consequences in certain cases. So, as far as I go, I have not experienced this but have seen many houses in India having image of an eye in Blue Tone on their entrance and also in their common room for guests. I have also seen Mukhauta of devils hanging in front of houses in India.

Yes I'm familiar with "Buri Nazar" type superstitions in India. I saw it in indian daily soaps opera. Thanks for adding more. Hope our society will be free from such superstitions someday!
