Food Photography Challenge - Week 16 | "Capture, Click, Compete!" | Varied and healthy
What do we know about food? Actually, each of us can answer this question differently. Some stuff their carts in hypermarkets with snacks and waffles, with red meats and sodas, others look at them in horror and reach for the shelves with precise attention. Food, they say, is health, but also disease if we do not approach it carefully. Food also divides us. Vegetarians are looked down upon by some of us, vegans are considered crazy and mocked countless times. Today, farmers' markets, homemade luteniks and sauerkraut are trendy, grandma's recipes are taken out of mom's greased cookbooks.
Today we can collect the colorful culinary world on our plate, but do we know how to do it?
The diet should consist of as many different unprocessed products as possible. This includes fruits and vegetables. But also meat, fish, chicken and eggs that are not processed.
In other words, when you buy food from the store, focus on those things that have not been cooked, processed, seasoned or altered in any way. Brown rice instead of white. Drink mostly water, but a little alcohol, coffee and other drinks do not harm. One can find research that shows that everything either prevents or causes cancer - including alcohol and coffee. But there is much more evidence to support moderate beverage consumption.
Eat less processed foods. You don't need to prepare everything yourself. The pasta, for example, that you will buy is already ready to cook. No need to grind your own flour or extract your own oil. These types of products are meant to be consumed with unprocessed foods, but try to eat less of them.
Even less often, eat fully processed foods. There is very little definitive and qualitative evidence that even fully processed foods are dangerous. But keep their consumption to a minimum because they can very easily turn out to be full of calories. Such foods include bread, chips, crackers and ready-to-eat cereals. In epidemiological studies, the most heavily processed foods are often associated with poor health outcomes, but this evidence should be taken with a grain of salt.
Eat as much as you like maybe more home cooked food, which should be done according to rule number 1. Eating at home makes it easier to avoid pre-processed ingredients. At home, you have complete control over what you eat and can choose the flavors and spices you prefer. You're unlikely to foolishly stuff yourself with home-cooked food. Of course, this is not easy either. Behavioral change requires repetition and practice. Unfortunately, and time.
Don't be afraid and use salt and fats - butter and oil, as needed for food preparation. Things like salt and fat are not the enemy. Very often they are necessary for the preparation of tasty and nutritious food. The key here is moderation. Use what you need. Spices often make vegetables taste good. Don't be afraid of them, but don't overdo it either.
Eat yourself with other people as often as possible, especially with those close to you. The benefits of sharing food are even greater than the benefits of healthy eating alone. Having other people around will make you cook more often. Also eat more slowly. And it will make you happier.
