Architectural Photography - Week 23 | "Capture, Click, Compete!" Hermes villa

If you love Vienna and its history, probably Empress Sisi is among your favorite palace characters. Even if you're not crazy about her beauty and slim waist, you might still be interested in her lifestyle. And she did not like living either in the Hofburg or in Schönbrunn. To keep her in Vienna, her husband Emperor Franz Joseph decided to give her a villa situated in the countryside.

Thus, in 1886, a Hermes villa appeared on the outskirts of Vienna, or rather among the hunting grounds of the aristocracy.
In addition to its elegant silhouette and sophisticated luxury, the place is also known for some modern innovations for its time - the road leading to the villa is one of the first in Vienna to be illuminated with electric lamps, and the building itself is among the first in the capital to have its own telephone.

With this audience, I want to invite you to another "Unknown Vienna" walk. This time we will meet not in the center of the Austrian capital, but in the comfort and greenery of the beautiful Leinzer Tiergarten reserve. Our aim is to visit Villa Hermes and learn more about the life of the imperial couple, about Elizabeth's habits, but also about the transformation of the park from a hunting ground into an attractive place for Viennese outings.

Here you can have a picnic or sit down for a glass of mélange in the cafe next to the museum. The park has several playgrounds, meadows and easy walking paths.
