Architectural Photography - Week 11 | "Capture, Click, Compete!" Avinguda Diagonal, Barcelona

Avinguda Diagonal, one of Barcelona's widest and most significant boulevards, bisects the city diagonally, cutting through the grid of surrounding streets. Its construction began in the mid-19th century and served as a display of wealth for the wealthy who paraded in their luxurious carriages down the avenue.

This iconic street is known for its showcase of Catalan modernism, featuring numerous buildings in this architectural style on both sides of the road. It has also become Barcelona's premier shopping destination, offering an abundance of department stores, malls and designer boutiques. As you stroll down the avenue, you'll find plenty of cafes and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy the impressive architecture.

The upper section of Avinguda Diagonal crosses Barcelona's busy business and shopping district. The famous L'Illa shopping center stands next to the avenue with a stepped design reminiscent of New York's Rockefeller Center. Designer fashion shops abound, especially around Francesc Macià Square ("Plaça de Francesc Macià") and Pau Casals Avenue. At the end of the latter you will find Turó Park, an ideal place to rest and rejuvenate, complete with a small children's playground and a café-kiosk.

Behind L'Illa, don't miss Concordia Square ("Plaça de la Concordia"), a charming oasis among the towering buildings of the upper part of the city, featuring a church bell tower and local businesses such as a flower shop, pharmacy and hair salon. Enjoy a quiet drink in one of the outdoor cafes in this picturesque square.

Here is a modern structure, it can be considered one of the icons of Barcelona, it can be seen from anywhere in the city. The architect's goal is to create the impression of a geyser. The Palau Reial de Pedralbes is an old building remodeled by Gaudí in a modernist style at the beginning of the 20th century. In the past it served as the residence of the royal family.
