Hello friends, I welcome you all to my blog as I present to you my second submission for the ongoing engagement challenge. Weldone to steembloggers for putting up such a nice topic in the community with the caption "If I were the Principal". I will be making my entry using the topic guidelines.

Being a principal of a school entails that one has to be grounded administratively. Administration is one of the core values in keeping up with the role of a principal. I will be using my high school days as a typical case study while making my entry. I went to an all-boarding school with a mix of both genders. The position of a principal is one that ensures that I oversee the entirety of all activities in the school or it can also be called Head Teacher.

What would you do for the growth of your school in academics

As the head of the school or principal, I should have been grounded administratively to ensure a smooth running of all school affairs void of hitches and complications. There are core values that I should be able to handle more efficiently which include, academic and non-academic issues. This would have to make sure the welfare of the teachers is well taken of while ensuring that they are academically sound in their various subjects and disciplined in their approach.

The other is the non-academic approach that entails that students are well-housed or accommodated, ensuring their welfare and feeding are well taken care of, while also driving other extracurricular activities that would encourage coexistence, relaxation, and last memories.

All these initiatives can also be promoted via media hype where more audience can be captured and the activities of the school shared. Trust me when the tuition is affordable, academic standards maintained, and extra-curricular activities boosted, that would be every parent's ideal high school when properly disseminated through the media channel.

What tips would you give to the teachers regarding the maintenance of discipline

Discipline should ordinarily have been the hallmark of excellence in my reign as the principal. No well-functioning administration would tolerate or stand better in an undisciplined space. Therefore the teachers-to-student approach would be well strengthened and limits have to be noted and maintained.

There wouldn't be concerns bothered on teacher-to-student favoritism to avoid passing the wrong impression to others. However, teachers have to coexist and respect themselves having known their seniority status both age and educationally inclination.

In an environment where the welfare of all concerned is paramount and maintained, discipline is next achieved seamlessly. You cannot be maltreating your subordinates and accept the expectations of those below your administrative rule.

Do you think sports should be promoted at the school level? What would you want to do to encourage the sports boys/girls in your school?

Sports is one of the best extra curriculum activity that should be promoted at all times and causes. It is the unifying rope that bonds everyone, including students and teachers. Most sports especially football is one sport loved by many and that brings everyone together.

Aside promotion of football, we have other sporty events that would be carried out during the inter-house sports festival. Some of the anticipated events to be seen include field and track events. Examples are javelin, short-put, high jump, long jump, hurdles, sack race, etc. These are activities that bring healthy competition among students.

And in doing so, teachers who are their house masters/mistresses would strongly participate to make sure that their house is seen with flying colors. Therefore, promoting weekly football games, table tennis, and volley/basket games would do more of recreational activity to all a sundry.

I remembered during my school days when I was on the school football team, we participated in different competitions both internal and external events. We travel outside the school premises to participate in football competitions. This gave us so much happiness, balance, and a sense of importance in all we do. Therefore, introducing sports as the principal should be one of my priorities by strongly using these channels.

What do you do to provide an easy atmosphere for students to learn? (Behavior of teachers with students)

In this case, I should be able to ensure a conducive learning classroom that is well-ventilated and ideal for such a purpose.

There should be the availability of learning materials for purposeful practical teaching. This entails that the science laboratory should be well-funded as well as the library.

For the in-class learning and instructional materials, all needed would be provided to allow for a seamless learning process.

In all of this, a break time should be strongly adhered to. Students should. Be able to use this time to ease tensions and stress before returning back to their classrooms.

I wouldn't be forgetting the welfare of the teachers who also need a place to rest after their sacrificial work during the day. Since my school is an all-boarding facility, there should also be decent staff quarters.

At last, tell us about the personality of your school principal in your matriculation level

I was privileged to have witnessed two different principals during my stay. But I will be talking about the first and only one who saw us through a greater number of years.

He is a core disciplinarian that does not tolerate any form of misconduct from students and teachers. In fact, there was a movement then called, "Operation Live Upto Expectation". This was positioned to instill discipline in everyone.

Just as he was a disciplinarian, he is a good listener and compassionate to all. He would want to know how we are been treated by other parties.

There was a common phenomenon that trends in other schools. Which was the act of seniority among students which compels students of higher class to instill some level of authority in others. This was not so during the reign of this man of the people. Everyone was equal in the eyes of the school. There was nothing like senior or Junior students but that would simply be identified from the uniforms.

Conclusion

High school is a stage in our lives where memories are greatly shared and this should be well defined on how it passes through us. As a principal, I should drive academic excellence that encompasses success in other areas like sports, the welfare of all a sundry, and school growth. However, better brand perception and media hype are avenues to create publicity as well as stimulate awareness and growth therein.
