Steemit Engagement Challenge/S14W3/Parent's Strict Behavior and Children's Mental Health

It's a tremendous opportunity to come across this post contest organize by @hive-109435,to express our view on strict behavior of parent to their children.

To be honest, I really lack what to say on this topic above but I will love to start by looking at the meaning of the word "strict".Strict simply means the act of being rigid to someone. Therefore, you can look at it base on your view but applying "strictness" to your children has a lot of consequences that can affect the child negatively and psychologically.

Now, please permit me to look at it traditionally in Africa standard way of training up a child. Most of the Africa parents particularly in Nigeria and precisely to almost all the indigenous tribes, believe traditionally handling a child with a strict iron hands is the best way of training up a child and the believe in this part of this scriptures which says "when you spare the rod you spoil the child"(Proverbs 13:24) and seems to delete this portion of the scriptures which says "Parents do not provoke your child to wrath but train them in the way of God"(Eph 6:1)

To me, application of strict behavior from parents to their children will only cause more harms and destruction to them than bringing them closer to them and that can affect their mental health by causing a lot psychological traumatization. It is very disheartening to see some parents engaging in such strict activities just to discipline their children,that will cause loneliness and the children will never be free with their parents. A child is free minded to anyone who is free with him or she and also a child becomes timid to a strict disciplinarian parent.

The advantages of parents strict behavior to their children

Base on my opinion, I am highly against, strict way of discipline a child, therefore I would love to advice that menial punishment should be given to a child when the child goes astray, but the parents should avoid aggressiveness, and thorough beating of a child instead engage in training up a child by discipline, he or she through advice.

The disadvantages of parents strict behavior to a child

It has a lot of disadvantages,when you induct in training your child in a strict behavior, therefore some of the advantages are:

1. The child will never be open minded to his parents.
2. The child will develop hate to his parents.
3. The child will always be absent minded in class and amongst his peers.
4. The child will grow in fear of his parents.
5. The child will grow to disrespect his parents and that can affect him negatively in the society.
6. The child will grow in isolation,in so much pain and discomfort. etc

What a child expect from his/her parents regarding to their behavior

Every child requires love, care and affection from their parents, children are tender in nature, therefore they expect love and correction anytime to go astray.
But as a child, you just have to obey your parents decision and never disobey them. But it never right to enforce discipline on your children because it's going to affect them negatively. The child will do what you ask him to do but trust me, it's not coming genuinely from the heart.

The negative effect of emotional blackmailing

Firstly,let us dwell in the meaning of emotional blackmail . Emotional blackmail is a situation where by someone uses his/her feeling, principles and ideology to control your perception or influence your behavior. And we have so many negative effects of emotional blackmail and they are:

1. The child becomes Insecure to the environment.
2. Inferiority complex affects the child greatly.
3. Lack of concentration.
4. Psychological traumatization because the order of the in the child life.
5. The child doesn't believe in his/her ability.

Conclusion

All parents, teachers, guardians should engage in training up a child through giving them proper guidance and counseling so as to correct the behavior of the child. Strictness is a barbaric way of training a child and it shouldn't be adopted in this 21st century parents because it will affect the mental health of the child negatively.
