My favorite festival is Vesak. This festival is held in the month of May and is a very special festival for Buddhists.Vesak is a significant holiday for Buddhists around the world. It is celebrated to commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing away of the Buddha. This festival is typically observed on the full moon day in the month of May and is recognized as one of the major Buddhist holidays. This festival is celebrated very beautifully in all countries where there are Buddhists

Here are some traditional activities that are performed on Vesak festival:

Meditation and Prayer: Buddhists participate in meditation and prayer sessions to honor the Buddha and his teachings.

Processions: In some countries, Vesak is marked by processions that include colorful floats, flags, and lanterns.

Offerings to the Buddha: Buddhists make offerings such as flowers, incense, and candles at temples and shrines to honor the Buddha.

Chanting of Buddhist scriptures: Chanting of Buddhist scriptures and hymns is a common practice during Vesak.

Giving to the poor: Buddhists engage in acts of charity and donate food and clothing to the poor in honor of the Buddha's teachings on compassion and generosity.

Decorating temples: Temples and homes are often decorated with lanterns and colorful streamers in celebration of the festival.

These activities vary from country to country and region to region, but all serve as a reminder of the importance of the Buddha's teachings in Buddhist culture

⭕Significance of Vesak festival

The festival holds immense spiritual significance in the lives of Buddhists as it represents the ideals of compassion, wisdom, and peace that the Buddha taught.

Buddhists around the world look forward to Vesak every year as it is an opportunity to come together to reflect on the teachings of the Buddha and renew their commitment to following the path of the Buddha. It is a time for spiritual renewal, meditation, and charity, with many Buddhists participating in fasting, prayer, and offerings to the Sangha.

Vesak is also an occasion for Buddhists to come together to commemorate the Buddha and celebrate his life and teachings. This includes elaborate temple decorations, processions, and the display of colorful lanterns. The festival also provides an opportunity to promote peace, understanding, and compassion in the wider community.Because of these values and various beautiful celebrations, Buddhists look forward to celebrating Vesak every year.

⭕My celebration of Vesak festival

The above photo shows how I celebrated Vesak last year.I think Buddhist people around the world celebrated Vesak more highly last year as the risk of corona virus decreased in the last few years. So I also went on a trip with my friends to see charity places. There, I and my friends traveled to Ruwanvelisaya in Anuradhapura, a holy place where the Buddhist people of our country worship very highly.

There I performed sil program with my friends and participated in a meditation program. And after that, they also participated in watching the beautiful Vesak lanterns and Vesak Thoran at night.I hope to celebrate Vesak well this year too.

⭕Unforgettable memory in celebrating Vesak

Last year, there was a creative Vesak lantern competition in our area for Vesak festival and I created and presented a lantern as a team design with my friends. The above photo shows the Vesak lamp we designed. So in that competition, our design was chosen as the second place. That is my unforgettable memory of the Vesak festival last year.

Finally, for the occasion of Vesak, I leave a message like this

📌️Build your life according to the teachings of the Buddha. Then there will be a good life

Also I invite my friends to share your favorite event with this community @dilums @sewmini @kavi1999
