Flowering plant Bougainvillaea glabra (paper flowers)

Today's plant is Bougainvillaea glabra. It is a flowering plant, popular for ornamental purposes, planted in most warm-climate areas.

It is an evergreen shrub which is commonly used as bonsai. It needs full sun, warm weather, and well-drained soil to thrive.

It normally reaches a height of 10–12 feet, but can reach 30 feet on rare occasions. Paper flower gets its name from the tiny white flowers that bloom in clusters surrounded by colourful papery bracts.

Other names- Santa-Rita( Spanish), Spanish veranera(Colombian), papelillo(Peruvian), primavera, três-marias, sempre-lustrosa, ceboleiro, roseiro, roseta, riso, pataguinha, pau-de-roseira and flor-de-papel. However, the most widely used name is Bougainvillea.

In Grenada, it is the national flower.
There are over 300 different varieties of bougainvillaea all around the world.
It is native to eastern South America, Brazil, Peru, and southern Argentina. This plant is also being cultivated in many Asian countries.
