The first android to climb the Great Wall of China

Another company invoking.

In recent months we have seen humanoid robots evolving and doing quite interesting things like cracking nuts, grating cucumbers, folding clothes, even organizing the office, but now thanks to a new video from Robot ERA, a company based in China we can add conquer a world monument to that growing list like this, is the Xbot-L, an Android, the startup Robot ERA climbed nothing less than the Great Wall of China.

It will be more than propaganda

But wait a minute, is that duct tape, in the latest video released this week the Xbot-L is shown performing the feat of being the first android to climb the Great Wall of China, a bold claim since most androids are still being tested in laboratories or working in factories and not walking along tourist trails.

Although not as fast as Unitree's H1 or as flexible as Boston Dynamics' Atlas, the He climbs the stairs with ease and when he reaches one of the watchtowers he even does some tai chi movements.

Robot ERA claims that the The robot's perceptual and decision-making capabilities in the face of unknown terrain enable the robot to recognize complex road conditions and adjust its walking posture in real time.

Improvisation or representation?

In the video you can see the advanced navigation and balance of the Android, but there is also an adhesive tape in its central part, perhaps the idea was to simulate the waist bags used by tourists or Xbot-L exaggerated in the exercises and needed to use bandage, we don't know for sure, but it's fun to see that despite the advances androids still occasionally need improvised fixes to get out of the lab and into the real world.

Despite not being a great advance in Android robotics, we must recognize the promotional effort of Robot ERA, showing an android walking through one of the most unique monuments in the world is not only a novelty, but also helps to normalize the presence of these robots in our daily lives.

Good detail that you mention, it would be that the robot broke down and they improvised the Macgyvers.
