Challenging the interior of the Earth.

Previous Attempts.

In 2009 researchers in Iceland drilled directly into the ground at the top of a volcano, the original plan was to drill a depth of 4.5 km just above a magma chamber, however as you can imagine when it comes to dealing with magma things They didn't go completely as planned.

At a depth of only 2 km the team penetrated an unknown upper part of the chamber where burning magma plugged the hole, damaged the Drill and released a stream of harmful gas into the air, a similar project was carried out in 2014 with The same results.

Without being a species that is easily intimidated, the humans involved in the project did not abandon the idea and decided to continue drilling, giving rise to the MKT, a Revolutionary project that promises significant advances both in the field of geoscience and in the production of geothermal energy, with a unique focus on directly drilling magma chambers the project aims to explore extreme magma-based thermal energy to transform geothermal energy production and provide new insights into volcanic processes.

An impact on Geoscience.

Comparing the MKT to the Large Hadron Collider is particularly admirable, suggesting that this project could change the field of Geoscience as impactfully as the LHC impacted particle physics, the ability to directly study magma in its natural environment offers an unprecedented opportunity to understand the complex geological processes that occur beneath the Earth's surface.

Integrating direct studies on magma with the observation of volcanic systems could significantly improve our ability to predict and monitor volcanic activities, potentially saving lives with better early warning systems, as well as by exploring the thermal energy of magma to generate supercritical steam (MKT). can unlock an extremely efficient and more sustainable source of energy.

A multidisciplinary project.

The participation of more than 40 institutes and companies from 11 different countries also reinforces the importance and international interest in the MKT, this highlights the global recognition of the need to advance clean energy sources and better understand the earth's geological systems to security and future development, therefore, the MKT is not just a research project, it is a promise of innovation that, if successful, could enter history with implications that extend far beyond the fields directly involved.
