Tradition is a belief or way of doing things that has been passed down from generations to generations. The truth is that we might not know who started it but we believed that since it is passed down from our ancestors, we need to practice and observe it. In my native land of birth, we have diverse traditions that is still practiced in this modern day. Walk with me as I expatiate one of my native land's tradition.

The "Ekpo" (Masquerades) Festival

Ekpo (Masquerades) festival is a festival that celebrates the spirit of the dead by demonstration. This celebration is similar to Halloween in the America and Europe. To celebrate this, the devotees wear masks either ugly or beautiful for the walk cosplay. To add display to the movement, drums of all kinds are rolled out and the rhythm of it dominate the area. Unmasked devotees come out with cutlass sheathed or unsheathed to display their handling ability. Let's discuss this festival in the few sub aspects.

Date of Celebration

Ekpo festival is a festival which usually marks the beginning of planting and rainy seasons. The date of this festival ranges between the first and second week of April. There was a time that It was celebrated during the last week of April. In general, I'll say that the festival is slated on the month of April.

Place of Activities

The festival kickstart from a thick forest which preparations are done. From the kickstart point, the first destination point is the village square. This is where non devotees can join in the movement. The festival features the masquerades, other devotees and non devotees moving around the village. It's usually a day festival.
