Mi primer retrato en digital - My first digital portrait

Noviembre es un mes muy especial para los seguidores del JRock, visual kei y sobre todo los fans de Versailles en Venezuela. El 11/11/11 se convirtió en una fecha inolvidable para las 700 personas que nos reunimos en un pequeño local de Caracas a ver algo que apenas podíamos creer: a Versailles dando un concierto en Venezuela!

Versailles ha sido la única banda de JRock visual kei que ha venido al país y dio un concierto que resultó más allá de las expectativas de todos.

Tuve la suerte y la oportunidad de poder asistir y ya les contaré sobre esa experiencia en un post largo.

Cuando logré conseguir mi boleto y supe que el Street Team estaba organizando crear un album con mensajes y dibujos de los fans para entregárselos a la banda, empecé a trabajar una ilustración para ellos y adicional, una para Teru a quién ya admiraba no sólo como un gran guitarrista sino como a un ilustrador y diseñador espectacular.

Intenté realizar mi primer retrato en digital. Estaba bastante nueva en el mundo de la ilustración digital por lo que no tenía buenas técnicas, adicional a ello, el realismo no era algo que me llamara la atención así que no practicaba retratos, pero quería hacer algo decente para hacerle llegar.

Al principio pensé que no iba a poder, que estaba deseando hacer algo para lo que no tenía habilidades aún y me costó mucho empezar, no quería hacer un mamarracho para entregárselo a un ilustrador con tanto talento como él xD

Así que un día, llegué a la casa después del trabajo, abrí el programa Manga Studio y sin pensarlo mucho empecé a hacer el boceto.. Avanzaba poco a poco todos los días cuando regresaba de trabajar. 48 horas en total me llevó completarlo, creo que ha sido la ilustración que más tiempo me ha llevado realizar y una de las que más satisfacción me hizo sentir al terminarla.

Lección aprendida: jamás dudes de ti mismo si no has intentado hacer algo, te sorprenderá lo que puedes llegar a realizar si pones de lado las limitaciones auto impuestas ;)

November is a very special month for JRock fans, visual kei and especially Versailles fans in Venezuela. 11/11/11 became an unforgettable date for the 700 people who met in a small place in Caracas to see something we could hardly believe: Versailles giving a concert in Venezuela!

Versailles has been the only JRock visual kei band that has come to the country and gave a concert that was beyond everyone's expectations.

I was lucky and had the opportunity to attend and I will tell you about that experience in a long post.

When I managed to get my ticket and I knew that the Street Team was organizing to create an album with messages and drawings from the fans to deliver them to the band, I began to work an illustration for them and additional, one for Teru who I already admired not only as a great guitarist but as a spectacular illustrator and designer.

I tried to do my first digital portrait. I was fairly new to the world of digital illustration so I didn't have good techniques, in addition to that, realism was not something that caught my attention so I did not practice portraits, but I wanted to do something decent to give to him.

At first I thought that I was not going to be able, that I was willing to do something for which I did not have skills yet and it took me a long time to start, I did not want to make a mess to give it to an illustrator with as much talent as him xD

So one day, I came home after work, I opened the Manga Studio program and without much thought I started to sketch it. I progressed little by little every day when I came back from work. It took me 48 hours in total to complete it, I think it has been the illustration that has taken me the longest to make and one of the ones that made me feel the most satisfaction when I finished it.

Lesson learned: never doubt yourself if you have not tried to do something, you will be surprised what you can achieve if you put aside self-imposed limitations;)
