Daily Following Christ
There is something we are getting wrong as Christians.
Some of us feel the only day to take up our cross and follow Christ is on Sunday, on weekends, or during our midweek services.
We've got it all wrong.
And many the only time they deem fit to look up to God or follow him is when they are down with life's challenges.
When they are in trouble, or when they need some kind of help from God.
Some only seek after God and follow him devotedly when they need something and when they eventually get that thing, they sideline God again and go about their normal life and business.
A lot of us when we receive the thing we need from God, refrain our steps from following him.
We have seen and heard cases of people or workers who are devoted to the things of God and render services in the church.
But the truth is that most of these people are just greedy and selfish. Some of them aren't just rendering these services to God with a free mind or because it is needful as a child of God.
Some of them just want God to bless them with something and then you will see them working their life out and dwelling in God's presence every day of their lives.
But is this what the Lord requires from us? Of course no.
For every child of God, we are admonished to follow Christ daily.
We are asked to pick up our cross daily and follow him.
KJV: And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
AMP: And He said to all, If any person wills to come after Me, let him deny himself [disown himself, forget, lose sight of himself and his own interests, refuse and give up himself] and take up his cross daily and follow Me [cleave steadfastly to Me, conform wholly to My example in living and, if need be, in dying also]. (Like 9:23)
If we must follow Jesus Christ, we must do it daily and we must deny ourselves. By denying ourselves, we have to deny the longing, cravings, pleasure, and even those things that will interest us.
We have to daily deny ourselves of all these things, pick up our cross every day and follow Christ.
If at any point in our lives we have refrained from following Christ. Let's look back at our lives and make adjustments.
Let's intentionally pick up our cross and follow Christ daily and we will be amazed by the outcome of our lives.
I pray that the good Lord help us and give us the grace to do this in Jesus's name Amen.
