The marks of true kingdom discipleship

in HeartChurch3 years ago (edited)

The discipleship mandate is the great commission; An instruction or command of God concerning raising kingdom-minded disciples. This entails Making disciples and not just mere converts. It’s good to preach and win souls to Christ but it should not end at that. A disciple is expected to dig deeper than that by making follow up on the converts, spending time with them, teaching them to observe all the commands of God. This is the real work of God that takes time and effort in building up real committed followers of Christ who are ready to advance the kingdom of God.

Mathew 28:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

God is a commander who requires obedience from his children. We are to disciple men by teaching them obedience to all that God commands in the scriptures.

Multiplication/ Increase

Our God is a God of Increase. When he sent his only begotten son on earth, his mind was on multiplying for himself sons. Discipleship can also be related to a seed that a man sows with an expectation for growth/maturity and increase at the end of the day. At the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, he chose 12 disciples in whom he replicated himself. These men became fully persuaded witnesses for Christ who caused a great early expansion of the Kingdom of God on the earth.

For instance, Peter preached boldly and after his message, 3000 men were saved and got added to the church. Read Acts 2:14-41

The heart of the father

Discipleship is the very heart of the father. His will is for all men to come to the knowledge of the truth. It takes love and patience to disciple a man as you seek to make him like Christ. God’s heart is pleased when men choose to lay down their lives for salvation and the building up of more labourers for his Kingdom.

It’s that time you sacrifice studying God’s word not only for your own edification but also for readiness to feed God’s people with the word. Read John 15:13, 1John3:16

John 15:13
Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

1John3:16
By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Discipleship is the will of God

God’s will is the salvation for all men on the earth. Engaging in discipling men is engaging in the will of God with the core mission of winning souls for the kingdom of God. Discipleship grounds a man in salvation whereby they are not easily shaken, disrupted or blown away by any negative circumstance in this world. Read Ephesians 3:17, Col 2:7

Ephesians 3:17
that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

Col 2:7
rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness

Disciples are fruit bearers

Sheep gives birth to a sheep. The great shepherd “Jesus Christ” looks after the sheep with an expectation for the sheep to grow up and produce other sheep. In like manner, a disciple is expected to bear fruit and such is measured by how many people he has managed to replicate himself into. When we bear fruit, God is glorified. Read John 15:8, 8:31

Jesus told his disciples to go throughout the earth making disciples.

Today God calls some people to foreign missions. Most believers aren't called to that but should try to reach their friends, family, and co-workers with the gospel.
