BE DISCRETE

Proverbs 31:30 tells us ''Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain but a woman that feareth the Lord shall be praised''. There is more to life than facial beauty. Physical attractiveness without strength of character soon wears thin. Delilah was a paragon of beauty and did capture the attention of Samson. But each time her name is mentioned, we only think of treachery and wickedness. She only used her beauty to destroy the handwork of God; the strength God gave to Samson to deliver Israel from bondage. Despite her beauty, Delilah is seen as a symbol of greed and unfaithfulness, a deceitful woman with honey on her lips and poison in her heart.

• Proverbs 11:22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.

God expects our beauty to come from the inside to the outside. We are to seek those qualities that help us make wise decisions not just those that makes us look good. The virtuous woman recommended in Proverbs 31; is seen as an epitome of beauty because of her character. She had a good relationship with her household and those outside her home, so much that people saw her goodness reflect in the life of her husband.

Are you beautiful? Praise God! You must be beautiful on the inside also. While taking good care of your body and appearance is not wrong, you also need to develop your ability to think right that God's name may be glorified.

• Colossians 4:17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
