LIVING AS LIGHTS

Text: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

One major way through which Jesus taught his disciples was to use several symbols to explain to them. He clearly explained that we are the light of the world. The significance of light cannot be over emphasised. God wants us to live as lights; functioning in that capacity everywhere we go and whatever we do. Light right from creation separates the day from the night. There is a clear distinction between light and darkness. The two cannot co-exist.

Living as lights connotes that we should live in such a way that there is a clear-cut distinction between us and everything that represent darkness. Darkness connotes the work of the devil characterised by sin and everything that is evil. The life of a believer should be very far away from this. The scripture clearly says what agreement has light with darkness. They have nothing in common. If your life as a believer does not challenge unbelievers then there is something wrong. Wherever we are found there should be a distinct difference between us. The way we talk should be different. Our manners should different. If you work in an office fill the place up with light; every time darkness shows up let your presence automatically dispel it. Not by making noise; but by a way of life that everyone in that environment had known you for over time. Darkness has the full right to operate when darkness is absent. It will be difficult to shine as light if you think that what darkness is offering is better. Any day anywhere light is far better.

The scriptural approach to life is far better than what the world can offer. Personally I have come to realise that I function better and think right when I live as light. It takes away fear and guilt. Please live as light.

CONFESSION:
I’m light to my world. I shine for others to see to the glory of God. There is no compromise in my life.
