DIVINE EXPECTATION 1

Text: “And Jesus answering said, were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?.” Luke 17:17

These ten lepers came to Jesus to be cleansed of their disease. Jesus specifically told them to go and show themselves to the priest. He did not in any way tell them to come to him after they must have been cleansed. One of them just decided to return to Jesus after he got his healing. I was wondering why Jesus was asking for the other nine. What Jesus said to them was “...Go shew yourselves unto the priests...” Luke 17:14.
Jesus was asking for the other nine because there is a divine expectation for them to return and appreciate the person responsible for what they experienced. Returning with a heart of gratitude is a divine expectation. It’s an expectation that God takes very serious. The man that returned to appreciate Jesus got something higher and better than what the other nine got. He was made whole in addition to been cleansed. Made whole was far way beyond the initial experience of cleansing.

Returning with a heart of gratitude is acknowledging the source of whatever we experienced initially. This connects us to a greater flow of the blessings from that source. God is our ultimate source and he expects us to return daily to appreciate his goodness in our lives.

Failure to return in thanksgiving and adoration is an indication of taking God for granted. When God is taken for granted we literally remove his hand away from our affairs and then openly invite the adversaries into our affairs. King Nebuchadnezzar took God for granted. He thought he was the one responsible for building a great kingdom that he had. He was shamefully humiliated at the end of the day. The rich fool did not acknowledge God in any way for the increase that he saw. The source of his life withdraws and that was the end of him. May your source remain.
