Fasting, Victory for the Nations.

Greetings Siblings.

In ancient times, fasting was valued and practiced with reverence and from the heart. In the modern era that we live in, some congregations do not attach importance to fasting, as a powerful tool that it is. I have always had faith in the power of fasting and have seen positive results the times I have practiced fasting.

Today I want to mention biblically, how the power of fasting pleasing to God gave victory to various nations.

The Fast of Queen Esther.

Queen Esther was a wise woman, who always tried to please, obey, and worship God. When she learned of Haman's plan against the Jewish people, she called on the people to do a 3-day fast for her, representing the Jewish people before the King.

Esther 4:16.

“Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”

After the fast, she appeared before the King and God gave victory to the Jewish people, Haman was hanged, and all the enemies of the Jewish people destroyed.

Nineveh´s Fast.

God was going to destroy the city of Nineveh, but he sent Jonah to preach to them and tell them that God wanted them to repent of their sins and in this way he would not destroy the city.

Jonah 3:4-5

4 Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” 5 The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.

As we read, the people of Nineveh announced fasting, because they believed God and then, the King ordered the entire city to fast, including the animals.

Jonah 3:6-7

6 When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. 7 This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh:“By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.

Finally, God was pleased and forgave the city of Nineveh.

Nehemiah's Fast.

Nehemiah was saddened to know the condition of the province, and after crying, he fasted and prayed before God.

Nehemiah 1:3-4

3 They said to me, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.” 4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.

God restored and blessed Jerusalem.

All this shows us that fasting is a powerful weapon that Christians should use, I believe that we are living crucial moments, and that if we all united as those nations that we have just read, and fasted, God would give victory in the face of so much disaster.

Fasting breaks yokes and is a spiritual exercise established by God that brings freedom, that breaks the bonds of impiety and oppression, both in a person and a nation. The men of God did it to defeat the yokes of oppression and they won the victory in everything they set out to do.
