GOD GIVE US CHRISTIAN HOMES

One of the few songs that have found its way into the Church Hymnals is the Hymn, God Give Us Christian Homes! It was loved by many because of its prayer for the home, its scriptural basis as well as its emphases on the roles of the different members of the home which are as they are contained in Ephesians 6:1-9. A review of the text shows that every member of the family has roles and responsibilities in the home.

The issue is whether we are faithful to our roles and responsibilities in our homes. Obedience by children and servants; love that is void of any form of provocation by the parents and masters; commitment at work void of eye service by the servants, and a remembrance by the masters and parents that God is there in heaven as the Judge of all. May we put into practice the responsibilities we have in Jesus name. Amen

Similar to the Ephesian appeals, the hymn, God Give Us Christian Homes! calls for homes where the Bible is loved and taught; homes where the Master’s will is sought. This means those homes are run on the basis of the Holy Bible. Such homes will be loved and blessed of God. The hymn writer also calls for homes where the fathers are true and strong; where there is love and song. That must be a joyous, sincere, frank and focussed home. He calls for homes where the mother is caring as she represents Jesus. Finally, he calls for homes where the fire on the altar is burning and glowing continually. God will be reigning in such homes. May God give us Christian homes in Jesus name. Amen.
