We all need help in one way or the other; nothing sustains like the help that comes from above. So evident is this truth, that the Psalmist proclaimed – “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is Thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thy soul, the LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore” (Psalm 121:1-8). This Scripture passage does not only set out the help God gives, it also outlines the “credentials” of the God Who gives help.
God is well able for the help He has promised; He is God, He is not man. Man may give you a promise to help on any particular front, only to discover that he is highly limited and lacks the capability: that is man for you, but God is not man. Whatever God says He will do, that He will do. God will not say what He will not do, He will not take you up to let you down. He told the children of Israel –
“Even to your old age I am He; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you” (Isaiah 46:4).
God never gets tired of rendering the needed help you seek from Him. He is really never weary and He will not let you down.
More importantly is the realization that there is really nothing we can ever do that qualifies us for the help the LORD freely offers. All our righteousness in His sight are like filthy rags. The help we receive from Him is really not because of anything we have done so well; it’s all because of what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross of Calvary.
The righteousness of Jesus credited to our account, is what is brought to bear in the help the Lord freely renders. It is never because of our merit; because, there is nothing we can ever do on our own to merit anything from God. It’s all in the help sponsored by God’s grace, which is God’s riches that has been made available to us at Christ’s expense. This grace emboldens us and makes God’s help feasible.
