Every move made by man under the sun is usually a product of the mind. By the time the signs of backsliding becomes evident in a life, the mind had long strayed away from the ways of the Lord.
The mind can be likened to an open field with diverse players. While it is true that you may not have control over the inflow of these players on the field of your mind, you stand as a determining factor as to how long they stay in your mind. If you allow them to stay long enough to ruin your mind, your life stands the awful chance of being ruined. While it is true that you can’t prevent a bird from passing over your head, you can very well prevent that bird from building a nest on your head.

The mind is a very delicate part of your being. When it begins to stray, it is not usually visible. The closest person to you may not be able to notice it; everything still goes on normally. When however it plunges your whole being into shame and reproach, it becomes an eye sore. The mind is very weird in its imaginations, it needs to be curtailed. You need the discipline of the mind to be able to stay your mind of God.
The fact that an evil item has crept in does not make you evil or sinful. If you stay your mind on it, then sinfulness results. In the same vein, the fact that an item of uprightness has crept in does not make you upright. It is when you stay your mind on it to give yourself over to it; that your uprightness comes true.
You have to be very careful the things you feed your mind with. Once you soak it in the mud of filthiness and it is displaced from the truth and disciplines of God’s Word, a fall is imminent. All the show you try to put up after the drift is transient, you are gone and it is a matter of time. When you yield to a temptation in your mind, the devil works to give you an opportunity. With every such opportunity, sin comes handy and a full results.
