Text: Hebrews 6:9-20

🤔Reflection:

  • Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

TOPIC: THE CERTAINTY OF GOD'S PROMISES
Although some members of the community to which this letter was written needed solemn warnings for their unbelief and immaturity, others had clearly shown by their changed lives that they were genuine believers. How did they demonstrate this (vs.9-10) and what encouragement is there for us in v.10 cf. Galatians 6:9-10?

Note the challenge in vs.11-12. Perseverance is one of the hallmarks of genuine Christianity. We live in an age of instant results, untamed appetites, and remote controls but that is not the picture of the Christian life that we see in the Bible. What assurance did Abraham have that God would fulfill His promise to him (vs.13-15)? Just like he did to Abraham, God has also given us a double assurance of our salvation by giving us His promise with an oath (vs.16-18).

The security of our salvation in Jesus Christ is based on His priesthood which is of a higher and superior order, the order of Melchizedek. It is also a permanent order, secured in heaven and assured by God Himself(vs.19-20).

So: Cheer up! God is faithful to perform His promises to you no matter how long you have waited.

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Prayer
🙇‍♂️ May my faith in You, O Lord, never waiver whatever challenging circumstance I may face.

Read the Bible a year: Exodus 39-40; James 5.
