Text: Matthew 27:1-10

Jesus had only been in custody for a few hours, but the Jewish leaders had already come to the decision that He must be put to death (vs.1). Being under Roman rule, they went to Pilate, the Roman Governor, to rubber-stamp their decision. Divisions that are carried out during the day in the open court are sometimes made in the club houses and secret meetings in the dead of the night.

"Be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:23). That was the experience of Judas. He came to his senses and remorse filled his heart. Unfortunately, and unlike Peter, he tried to solve his problem by hanging himself. In our world today, even some Christians respond to problems like Judas did. What God wants from us, when we sin is repentance, not just remorse or regret.

Preachers and teachers of God's Word must like Paul help people who sinned against God to realize their mistake and exhibit godly sorrows, leading to their repentance and salvation (2 Corinthians 7:8-10). No sin is too big to be forgiven by the One who prayed for those who crucified Him. Both Saul (Acts 7:58; 8:1; 1 Timothy 1:13-15) and David (2 Samuel 12:9,13) were murderers but they received God's instant forgiveness.

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Prayer
‍♂️ Deliver me, dear Lord Jesus, from falsehood, greed and any sins that could lead to eternal damnation.

Read the Bible a year: Proverbs 19-21; Hebrew 1.
