Text: Matthew 13:44-52

The parable of the hidden treasures and that of fine pearls emphasise the enormous value of the kingdom of heaven. Notice the joy of the man who found the hidden treasure and the action he took (v.44). When the merchant found pearls of great value, he took a similar action (vs.45-46). In both cases there was sacrifice and great cost. What does this teach you concerning the value you should place on salvation and your life as a follower of Jesus Christ (Matthew 6:33; Mark 8:34-37)? Also compare the example of Paul (Philippians 3:8). The parable of the dragnet takes us to the end time when all will be judged (vs.47-50). What caution do you get from this graphic picture of the separation of the good and the bad catch?

We note that a good teacher brings out a message of value to his listeners (v.52). How should this verse guide you in your preparation as a teacher of God's Word (2Timothy 2:15)?

So what? Have you yet totally sacrificed anything for the sake of God's Kingdom?

Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Prayer: Like Paul, dear Lord Jesus, help me to consider every other thing in my life of far less value than knowing You and being a faithful and responsible member of you Kingdom.

Read the Bible a year: Daniel 11-12; Revelation 9.
