Using or Being Used?
Galatians 5:16-18 (NIV)
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Although, some of us are genuinely saved by Jesus Christ, but there is an insistence to wanting to maintain the old wine which is likened to trying to use analog manual to run digital inventions or machines. This will certainly create constant conflicts and chaos because the commands to run both are clearly different. This is what Apostle Paul is saying, that the flesh and the Spirit remain at constant variance according to the anchor text shared above.
Thus, some believers desire to use God to attain to their self generated dreams because of old mindset. God knows and searched every heart. They never bother to seek His face to know His perfect will for their lives, but rather they only want Him to endorse their plans. Oftentimes, they are referred to as babies in Christ, because the dominant peculiarity of a child is self centeredness. Most people just want to "use God" rather than have God use them but the truth is, God knows every heart and He can never be used. He would have mercy on whom He choose to have mercy on... He is not cajoled by eye service.
However, the ones who desire for God to use them are the kind who submit themselves completely out of fear for God. They understand that to be spiritual means that they must always follow the Lamb wherever He goes by denying themselves, and taking up the cross - that is, death to the old mindset with the lusts of the flesh.
These are the examples of those who were used of God; Jesus Himself, Peter, Haggai, Kenneth Hagin and so many great men of God we have in our world today. They saw past themselves and allow God's Will to be done. I read about how Pastor Adeboye here in Nigeria had to burn his certificate because God doesn't want him to think when ministry gets tough that there is something he would want to run and fall back on.
Brethren, we need to subscribe to being used by God rather than trying to use God instead. For He is still seeking vessels that He may use for His glory in these last days. The harvest is ready but the labourers are few. Would you also say, "Here I am, send me?". Would you gladly say, "Speak, for Your servant is listening, Lord?".
