There are so a lot of co-artists in the Church and the world at large, to the extent that the gift of discernment has become very necessary in the life of every believer.

In your business activities, if you don't want to fall casualty to the cankerworm of deceivers and cheater, you need to depend on the Holy Spirit to help you use discernment over business opportunities that are been presented to.

In your job, if you do want to escape from those who work for the devil that is looking for every opportunity to milk their employers dry and implicate innocent individuals along the way, you need the gift of discernment to begin to work in your life.

The stories narrated in Joshua 9:1-16 are very good life lessons on the usefulness of the gift of discernment. Joshua was quick to enter into a pact with the Gibeonites without first asking God for directions and he ended up falling for a lie; the impact of which continued to affect the children of Israel generations after.

Be careful of any deal or issue that is brought before you which needs you to make a quick commitment. Also, at your workplace, be cautious when a paper is brought for your signature and deep urgency is being applied on you to sign it quickly without thoroughly checking its contents.

In contrary to Joshua who became a victim of the lies of the Gibeonites, we also read the story of Paul who was able to discover the demonic spirit at work in the supposed public relations secretary.

She followed Paul and his colleagues for many days, proclaiming what Paul and his team came to do in that locality. Thank God that Apostle Paul, through the gift of discernment, discovered after a lot of days that it was a divination spirit at work in her.

If this wasn't found out, a lot of people would have thought that she was working with the same spirit as Apostle Paul and his team, enticing them to follow her and making the evil spirit in her to make a business of them.

This would have brought shame to the name of the Lord Jesus, and the message of the good news would have been adulterated. This is a serious lesson for preachers, evangelists, and missionaries: volunteers should take note. Free services may sometimes not be free in the long run. It is important for us to have the gift of discernment to be able to identify the cunning moves of the enemy. This gift of discernment is freely given by God when you thirst for it in prayer.
