PETER AND JOHN GLADLY FOLLOWED JESUS.

Jesus met Peter and John fishing and he told them to follow Him and He would make them fishers of men. They gladly followed and they became disciples of Jesus. Jesus had twelve of such disciples who followed Him wherever He went. Today; Jesus still has disciples who follow after the tenants of his Word in uprightness and truth. It didn’t end with Peter and John and the rest of the twelve disciples Jesus had in His redemptive work on earth. Jesus said; in John 8:31 – “If ye continue in My Word, then are ye my disciples indeed”. Confrontation with the Word of God is very primary in ascertaining any claim of true discipleship or followership.

You are a follower of Jesus, if you allow yourself to be guided by the principles of God’s Word. God’s Word is a guide: The Psalmist proclaimed in Psalm 119:105 – “Thy Word is a lamb unto my feet and a light unto my path”. Staying guided by the Word of God is a mark of true followership. Many seek to follow after God’s Word with lot of other attachments; but, until it becomes the “Word only”, heaven does not reckon with you as a follower.

Followers of Jesus are followers of righteousness. Scriptures affirm – “But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, Who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption” (1 Corinthians 11:30). He is our righteousness; following after Jesus is being a follower of the righteousness He has been made to become unto us. As born again children of God; we’ve been divinely acclaimed the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus: The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 – “For He hath made Him to be sin for us, Who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him”.

It’s all in the finished work of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. It is a complete package; you are not just a follower, you have become the object of that which you follow. “We all, with open face beholding as in glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

When God looks at you; He sees the righteousness of His Son in you. the bone of contention was broken on the cross; you now have a right standing with God, not because of what you have done, but because of what Jesus did so well on the cross. Being a follower of righteousness makes you a practitioner of righteousness. It is not a mere talking kind of a thing. The Bible says for you not to be deceived in this matter; because, “he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous” (1 John 3:7). Being a follower of righteousness is sustained more by the doing of righteousness and not the mere talking of it.
