What are your motives behind what you're doing?

in HeartChurch4 years ago

Motive is a reason for doing something;
It is something (such as a need or desire) that causes a person to act.

Motive is why we do what we do, many Christians out there serve God and do things for God, some of them are helpful and good. In the eyes of God is not how good or how helpful what you are doing is, but rather your motives behind them.

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

I Samuel 16:7

Our motives are revealed in our hearts. Anytime time we stand out to serve, sing, worship, minister, give, praise or do anything to God, our motives will be questioned.

It might interest you to know that no matter you do or however you do things for God if your motives are selfish or self-centered, it disqualifies you totally in the eyes of God. Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart.

We need to be careful cos something good can turn to be bad because of motives. Before doing anything whatsoever, know your motives. Why are you doing what you're doing or want to do? Is it in accordance to the word of God? Are you doing it for self-recognition? Is it for the glory of God or for your own glory? Is it to help others or for yourself? There must be a reason behind what you do and what you don't do.

Look, it doesn't matter if you did something with the wrong motive, the Bible says "a new heart will I give you, and a new spirit will I give you". The holy spirit is always there to purge your heart and help you amend your ways in accordance with the the will of God so that God's blessings can actually be your portion.

Let there be good and right motives in anything you want to do in enhancing the kingdom of God and you will be surprised at the blessings God will shower you with.

Right motives gives one confidence, strength and boldness. You will enjoy peace of mind knowing too well that you are doing something for God and not for your personal interest.

Shalom!!!
